Database Administrator

Remote Full-time $55k–$99k/yr
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to manage, maintain, and optimize our organization's database systems. The Database Administrator will be responsible for ensuring database availability, performance, security, and integrity while supporting business-critical applications and data-driven initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, maintain, and upgrade database management systems
  • Monitor database performance and optimize queries, indexes, and system configurations
  • Design and implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies
  • Ensure data integrity, consistency, and availability across all database environments
  • Perform routine database maintenance, including patching and upgrades
  • Manage user access, permissions, and database security
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database performance issues and system failures
  • Develop and maintain database documentation, procedures, and standards
  • Collaborate with software developers, data engineers, and IT teams to support application development and deployment
  • Monitor database health and proactively identify areas for improvement
  • Implement data replication, high availability, and failover solutions
  • Support database migrations and cloud database initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with organizational security policies and industry best practices

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, information systems, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • 2+ years of experience administering relational database systems
  • Strong knowledge of SQL and database optimization techniques
  • Experience with one or more database platforms, including Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, or MariaDB
  • Experience with database backup and recovery procedures
  • Familiarity with Windows and Linux server environments
  • Knowledge of database security, access control, and encryption
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills

Nice to Haves

  • Experience with cloud database services such as AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database, or Google Cloud SQL
  • Knowledge of database automation and scripting using PowerShell, Python, or Bash
  • Experience with database monitoring tools
  • Understanding of high availability, clustering, and replication technologies
  • Industry certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, Oracle Database Administration, or AWS Database Specialty
